According to a new investigative report from The Intercept's Lee Fang and Ken Klippenstein, Facebook and Twitter collaborated with the Department of Homeland Security to censor information on a number of topics including the withdrawal from Afghanistan, COVID, and more.

Years of internal DHS memos, emails, and documents — obtained via leaks and an ongoing lawsuit, as well as public documents — illustrate an expansive effort by the agency to influence tech platforms," the report says


According to Fang, the social media giants created special portals to communicate with the government to facilitate the rapid removal of content.
