A series of weekend shootings across the United States resulted in several people losing their lives and dozens more being injured, police in multiple states and cities reported.
Allen, Texas
On Saturday afternoon, a gunman opened fire at the Allen Premium Outlets mall, killing nine people before an officer with the Allen Police Department fatally shot him.
“The officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat. He then called for emergency personnel. Nine victims were transported to local hospitals by Allen Fire Department,” Allen Police wrote in a Facebook post. “There is no longer an active threat.”
Authorities were notified about the shooting just after 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. However, Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey shared during a press conference that an officer was already at the mall for something else.
“He heard gunshots, located the shooter, neutralized the threat,” Harvey said. “We believe at this point the shooter acted alone.”
Those injured were taken to a local area hospital for treatment, and Allen Fire Chief Jonathan Boyd shared that three are in critical condition and four are stable.
An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
Houston, Texas
In the early hours of Saturday morning at a graduation party in Houston, Texas, 16-year-old Isaac Zetino was shot and killed during an altercation with an adult male, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The sheriff’s office shared that shots were fired at around 1:30 a.m., one of which fatally struck the teen. First responders attempted life-saving measures on Zetino but were unsuccessful.
Zetino was one of several teenagers at the home when the shooting took place, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez. The sheriff said that investigators determined Zetino and another juvenile got into a “disturbance” with the father of a female at the party.
Things then escalated, and both parties pulled their firearms, shooting at one another, police said. Gonzalez noted that the adult male has said he was acting in “self-defense.”
No charges have been filed at this time, but police have located all parties believed to be involved in the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Chico, California
A house party in Chico, California, turned deadly on Saturday morning when five people were injured, and one person was killed in a drive-by shooting, police shared at a press conference.
The Chico Police Department shared that a 17-year-old girl was the only victim to lose her life in the shooting, which took place after 3 a.m., Lt. Terry Tupper shared with ABC News.
Tupper shared that the gunman had opened fire from a vehicle into a group of people in the parking lot of the apartment complex where the party was taking place.
While it is still unknown if the shooter was specifically targeting any of the six people who had left the party, Tupper shared that the shooting “was not random.”
Those injured in the shooting, four males and one female, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and ranged in age from 18 to 21.
Chico Police Chief Billy Aldridge thinks the shooting was an “isolated incident.” He shared that the investigation remains ongoing.
Ocean Springs, Mississippi
A shooting at The Scratch Kitchen in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, left one teenager killed and six others injured on Friday night, police said.
The shooting took place around 11 p.m., and when officers with the Ocean Springs Police Department arrived, they found seven victims, including 19-year-old Chase Harmon, who died from his wounds, police shared.
Those who survived the shooting were taken to a local hospital, but the extent of their injuries was not shared.
On Saturday, police shared in a press release obtained by WLOX that a suspect had been taken into custody. Police also shared that they believe the shooting to be gang-related.
“At this time, the identity of the suspect will not be released as the investigation continues,” Ocean Springs Police Chief Mark Dunston said in the press release. “Detectives are continuing to conduct interviews and do not want details to taint any forthcoming information.”
St. Paul, Minnesota
The St. Paul Police Department responded to the call of a shooting just before 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. When they arrived, they found a man suffering from gunshot-related injuries.
The man was taken to a local hospital, where he died from his wounds. The shooting marks the 13th homicide in the city this year.
An investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
