What does Biden’s silence regarding Trump’s indictment mean?

A recent report from Politico says that President Joe Biden and his top aides are purposely staying silent on former President Donald Trump’s federal indictment, but many are wondering why?

Despite constant allegations from Trump and other Republicans that the indictment over his handling of classified documents is political persecution from the president, Biden remains quiet.

KNX In Depth’s Charles Feldman and Rob Archer spoke with Mike Lux, a Democratic strategist and former member of the Clinton and Obama administrations, about why Democrats are keeping their mouths shut.

While a majority of Democrats are keeping their opinions to themselves, Lux highlighted that it’s different between those within the administration and those outside it.

But, after serving in former President Barack Obama’s administration, Lux shared that silence around Department of Justice investigations isn’t anything new to Trump’s case.

“We had investigations of various members of the administration, various members of congress who were suspected of different things,” Lux said. “We had absolutely no contact with the Justice Department. We were instructed to have no contact. It was an iron kind of thing, as well as no comment in the press.

“You can’t have the political side of the administration, you know, talking to the Justice Department about those things.”

Lux acknowledged that supporters of Trump and the former president himself would likely not believe anything other than the claims that Biden is personally using the DOJ as a means of attack against the Republican.

Despite this, Lux still thinks that remaining silent on the issue is what’s the best thing possible for the administration, adding that for now, he thinks “no comment is appropriate.”

“I think telling our story on it is something that’s eventually going to happen. But not everything that needs to be done needs to be done today or tomorrow,” Lux said.

When it comes to a possible campaign meetup between Biden and Trump, Lux says it will be challenging for the president as this is an unprecedented time in American history.

While it may just take some time, Lux says that the silence from the Democratic party will have to come to an end eventually.

“I think one of the reasons no one is commenting right now is we want to take our time figuring out how to talk about this. If to talk about it,” Lux said. “I think Biden is going to continue to not talk about the trial and the case, but I think other folks may engage overtime and probably should over time.”
