Visiting giant, decorated trees is a staple of modern Christmas celebrations. According to Habitat for Humanity, an estimated 500,000 people visit the Rockefeller Center tree in New York alone during the holiday season.
How did the tradition of putting up these giant Christmas trees in public get started? How does it all happen? Rodney Jacobs of Stinson Lumber in Oregon joined the latest episode of “Something Offbeat” to help us find out.
There’s a lot more that goes into it than you’d think.
“So, we… look at trees that are good candidates and then we just kind of watch them throughout the year,” he explained. “And then finally around August of each year, we finally start looking at it more seriously.”
