Former Washington Redskins quarterback and self-proclaimed “military brat” Robert Griffin III recently took part in a first of its kind community engagement campaign at the Waterside District in Norfolk, Virginia.

In partnership with USAA Life Co, Griffin held the first Positive Steps event to inspire positive choices and overall well-being on Sept. 10.

“USAA’s Positive Steps campaign was the perfect opportunity for me to remind kids and the community how simple, everyday efforts are `Positive Steps' we can all take to achieving our goals and living a prosperous life,” said Griffin.

Griffin, who has partnered with USAA for 15 years, was born in Okinawa, Japan, where his parents, Robert Griffin Jr. and Jacqueline, were both serving in the Army.

The day included  an exclusive unveiling of a temporary pop-up art installation and a visit to local children at Junior Achievement.

“I saw a lot of my younger self in the kids I got to visit with today in Norfolk, including the football team from Ruffner Academy,” Griffin siad. “They were very engaged and I hope I inspired them to think about their future, embrace the process of making positive choices every day, and good things will come their way in sports and in life.”

Junior Achievement is the nation's largest organization dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills they need to own their economic success, plan for their futures, and make smart academic and economic choices.

The stairs feature eye-catching designs, an homage to how simple efforts are ”Positive Steps” to living a healthy life.
