The 31st Annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp will bring more than 1,500 Gold Star family members from across the country together this Memorial Day weekend.
Hosted by Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors, the May 22-26 event will include powerful Memorial Day observances, including visits to Arlington National Cemetery and special ceremonies honoring those who have died in service.
“Memorial Day is a solemn occasion when Americans unite to honor those who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom,” said Bonnie Carroll, TAPS President and Founder and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient, “and we encourage our families of the fallen to ‘remember the love, celebrate the life, share the journey.’ “
Led by experts in the fields of child development, mental health, and education, Good Grief Camp participants will honor their loved one, connect with their peers, and learn coping skills through games, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities in a fun and supportive environment.
“For 31 years now, TAPS has been a pillar of support for these families, whether a service member died in combat, by suicide, from illness, or in an accident,” added Carroll. “TAPS stands ready to support them and honor their lives, ensuring they are forever remembered by a grateful nation.”
This year’s programming has grown substantially to accommodate increased interest, particularly in its Good Grief Camp for children and teens, as they come together for expert-led grief and trauma workshops, peer support, and age-appropriate programming for children and teens.
Separate informative and interactive workshops are also provided to young adults, ages 18-30.
