The Task Force Leader for Florida’s Team Rubicon named Lawrence Montoya recently appeared on NBC News with a call to action, requesting additional volunteers to help Team Rubicon bring humanitarian relief to those affected by Hurricane Helene.

Helene was a category four storm when it made landfall in Florida, and then became a tropical storm as it plowed into Georgia, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. 191 deaths have been reported across six states in the aftermath of the hurricane.

Team Rubicon is a veteran-led non-profit organization that provides disaster relief amongst other services. In response to Hurricane Helen, Team Rubicon has dispatched route clearance teams to remove debris from roads.

"They were able to clear enough debris on these roads across Florida, South Carolina, Georgia to fill up a convoy of 1,050 dump trucks," explained Art delaCruz, the CEO of Team Rubicon in an NPR interview. "In this long marathon process of restoration of services, all of those can occur once the roads are cleared."

He went on to say that Team Rubicon is now transitioning to helping individual homeowners.

Team Rubicon was founded in 2010 by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jake Wood in the wake of an earthquake that devastated Haiti. Volunteers can sign up at the Team Rubicon website.
