The win for the Shockers snapped the 37-game winning streak of the two-time defending national champion Bearcats.

Trailing by six points with three minutes to play, Wichita's All-American sophomore Dave Stallworth personally outscored Cincinnati 7-0 down the stretch for the win.

Stallworth's performance was epic; he finished with a career-high 46 points, a school record that stood for two decades before it was broken by Antoine Carr.

Stallworth against Cincinnati shot 14-for-22 from the floor, and 18-for-23 from the free-throw line.

#1-ranked Cincinnati scored zero points in the final seven minutes against the Wichita defense.

Cincinnati only lost one other game that season; it was against Loyola (Chicago) in the NCAA Tournament championship game.
