Preparations are underway at Arrowhead Stadium as the home of the Kansas City Chiefs is temporarily being rebranded as “Kansas City Stadium” for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. FIFA rules prohibit corporate-sponsored stadium names during the tournament, prompting the change from GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.
Crews have already begun removing signage throughout the stadium and installing FIFA branding ahead of Kansas City’s six scheduled World Cup matches. About 3,500 seats have been removed to accommodate expanded media and broadcast operations, reducing stadium capacity to between 65,000 and 68,000 fans.
The stadium field is also being modified to meet FIFA standards. Workers are replacing the football surface with Bermuda grass and widening the playing area for international soccer competition. Chiefs executive vice president of operations and events Matt Kenny said the venue will still retain elements that remind visitors they are in the home of the Chiefs while balancing FIFA’s tournament requirements.
Kansas City is scheduled to host four group-stage matches, a Round of 32 game, and a quarterfinal during the 2026 World Cup. The first match at the stadium is set for June 16.
