Freshmen win girls golf titles in Kansas; KMC dominates in 5A

The high school girls golf two-day state championships finished Tuesday around the state of Kansas.

Class 5A competition took place at Carey Park in Hutchinson. Kapaun Mount Carmel dominated the field for the state title, with an 89-stroke margin ahead of runner-up Hays. The Crusaders have won back-to-back state titles in girls golf.

The individual winner in Class 5A was Kinslea Jones, a freshman at Maize; she shot a final-round 72 on Tuesday, winning the state championship by three strokes.

Among the smaller schools in Class 3-2-1A at the Hesston Golf Course, the individual state champion was Margaret Ulrich, a freshman from Wichita Collegiate; she won the title by seven strokes.
