A big win for the Kansas State Men's Basketball team in Manhattan on Monday, defeating No. 16/17 Cincinnati in both teams' Big 12 opening game.
K-State led by as many as 9 points in the second half before Cincinnati managed to tie the game at 56-all with 5:31 to play. Senior David N'Guessan responded with a bucket and foul 3-point play to give the home team a 59-56 lead with less than 4 minutes remaining.
The Bearcats kept it close, and began fouling to stop the clock. But K-State was hitting its free throws down the stretch, making 16 of 20 on the night.
Senior Coleman Hawkins led the 'Cats with 20 points, and junior Dug McDaniel added 17 as the Wildcats snapped a 3-game losing streak winning 70-67. K-State improves to 7-5, 1-0 in the Big 12. The Wildcats are now 3-0 in Big 12 openers under head coach Jerome Tang.
Next up for K-State, a 2-game road swing starting Saturday afternoon, as the Wildcats travel to Fort Worth, Texas to take on TCU.
