The Kansas City Chiefs are already looking beyond their planned move into a new domed stadium in Kansas.
Team president Mark Donovan said the organization has begun preliminary discussions with the NFL about bringing a Super Bowl to Kansas City, with hopes of hosting the league's biggest game in 2033, 2034 or 2035 after the new stadium is expected to open in 2031.
The Chiefs are also targeting other marquee events, including the NCAA Men's Final Four, saying the franchise is "aggressively pursuing" opportunities to make the new venue a year-round destination for major sporting events.
The proposed $3 billion domed stadium in Wyandotte County would feature a natural grass playing surface and is designed to host events that Arrowhead Stadium could not, including the Super Bowl, Final Four, College Football Playoff games and other national events.
Kansas City has never hosted a Super Bowl, but Chiefs officials believe the new stadium would give the region its first realistic opportunity to land one of the NFL's showcase events.
