Kansas City Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis is making a major impact on the defense, even when he isn't putting up big sack numbers.

Karlaftis has emerged as one of the Chiefs' most disruptive defenders, using relentless pressure, strong play recognition and preparation to create problems for opposing quarterbacks.

He has recorded 13 quarterback hits this season, more than three times the total of any other Chiefs defender. His ability to pressure quarterbacks has been especially important as Kansas City works to improve its pass rush.

Karlaftis had a strong performance in Sunday's 22-6 win over the Los Angeles Chargers, recording his first sack of the season, six tackles and two passes defended. He also helped stop a goal-line play by tackling running back Kimani Vidal for a loss.

According to Pro Football Focus, Karlaftis has generated 19 quarterback pressures since Week 4, the most in the NFL during that span. He also recorded 11 pressures against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 4 and 10 against the Chargers.

Chiefs defensive end Ashton Gillotte praised Karlaftis for his ability to make smart plays throughout the field, crediting his film study and understanding of the defensive scheme.

Gillotte also described Karlaftis as a dependable teammate who helps guide younger players and is always available when they need him.

Karlaftis, a first-round pick out of Purdue in 2022, has become a key part of Kansas City's defensive front. His performance is giving the Chiefs another reliable presence as they look to maintain their strong defensive play.
