The Kansas City Chiefs bolstered their offensive line, as part of their all-important quest to protect Patrick Mahomes, with a big-time trade on Friday afternoon.
According to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo, the Baltimore Ravens are sending Pro Bowl tackle Orlando Brown to Kansas City in a deal that involves a number of draft picks. The Ravens now own both the No. 27 and No. 31 picks in this year's draft, while the Chiefs have no more in the first round but have added an extra selection for the second round.
Brown has been a Pro Bowler for two consecutive seasons after the Ravens selected him in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft. According to Pro Football Reference's Approximate Value metric, which is an attempt to place a numerical value on every player in the league based on their production, Brown ranks fourth among all offensive linemen over the past two seasons, trailing only Quenton Nelson, Ryan Ramczyk and David Bakhtiari.
Brown will join new acquisition Joe Thuney on the rebuilt offensive line in Kansas City for 2021, if not longer. Brown's contract is set to expire following the 2021 campaign, in which he'll make just under $3.4 million.
According to ESPN's Jamison Henley, the Ravens already have Brown's replacement picked out, though he's still a free agent as of now.
