Salvador Perez etched his name into Royals history Wednesday, blasting his 317th career home run to tie George Brett for the franchise record and spark a comeback in Kansas City's 5-4 victory over the San Francisco Giants. The win completed a three-game sweep at Kauffman Stadium.
The Giants built a 3-0 lead before the Royals erupted for five runs in the seventh inning. Perez's two-run, 437-foot homer cut the deficit to one, and Kansas City kept the rally going with key hits from Nick Loftin and Lane Thomas. Thomas delivered the go-ahead two-run single that put the Royals in front for good.
Starter Seth Lugo earned the win after allowing three runs over seven innings. Steven Cruz recorded the first save of his major league career, despite surrendering a solo home run in the ninth.
The victory improved Kansas City's homestand to 5-1 and sends the Royals into their next series with Perez needing just one more home run to become the franchise's all-time leader.
