It was a 10/7 matchup in Round 1 of the NCAA Tournament, as #10 Arkansas was looking to upset the 7-seed Kansas Jayhawks in Providence, RI. It was another meeting between two of college basketball's winningest coaches, KU's Bill Self and new Razorbacks' head coach John Calipari. KU has made 35 straight NCAA Tournaments and hadn’t lost in the first round since 2006. Coming into this season, KU was the preseason #1 ranked team in Div. 1 and the favorite to win a National Championship.
And the Jayhawks were upset by the Razorbacks 79-72. Zeke Mayo led KU in scoring with 18 points. AJ Storr finished with 15 points and Hunter Dickinson added 11 points and nine rebounds. Arkansas will face No. 2 seed St. John’s — led by another national title-winning coach, Rick Pitino — in the second round of the West Region on Saturday.
