The Summerball Showdown charity tournament begins next week, and a few new additions are being included in the line-up.
16 to 32 teams are anticipated to play Wednesday through Friday, leading into Quarterfinal Saturday and National Championship Sunday at the Genesis Sports Center in Goddard, for over $30,000 in compensation.
Proceeds will go to benefit Military Wardogs, providing service dogs for veterans. Spokesman Steve Schaad says the tournament has morphed into a festival as well.
"We now have live music, Thursday through Sunday," Schaad said. "We also added fireworks on Friday and Saturday nights," he added.
They've also added a Cornhole Tournament, throwing axes for the adults, as well as inflatables and a babysitting area for the kids.
They also anticipate announcing additional teams every few days leading into the tournament.
Friday, Aug 6 is Veterans, Military and First Responders night. The Military Wardogs baseball team will be playing in the feature game at 6:30 p.m. That night, a service dog will also be presented to a deserving veteran.
