One year ago: Jayhawks win the national championship in men's basketball

One year ago on this night, Kansas defeated North Carolina 72-69 in the championship game of the NCAA men's basketball tournament.

This was KU's sixth national title, including its fourth NCAA Tournament championship. The Jayhawks trailed 40-25 at halftime, then shot 58% from the field in the second half, outscoring the Tar Heels 47-29 after halftime. KU trailed by 16 points in the first half; this was the largest comeback win in NCAA championship-game history.

This was KU's third national title since 1988.

David McCormack had 15 points and 15 rebounds, and was named to the all NCAA-Tournament Team. Christian Braun added 12 points and a dozen rebounds, and Jalen Wilson had 15 points.

Ochai Agbaji was named Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Tournament.

KU finished the season on an 11-game winning streak, with a record of 34-6; the Jayhawks were 26-0 on the season when holding opponents under 70 points. KU head coach Bill Self also improved to 4-0 in games vs. North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament.
