There hasn't been much to celebrate with the Royals lately, so Monday morning's MLB All-Star ballot drop might finally give fans something to be happy about. Through the first phase of All-Star voting, Salvador Perez is currently leading all AL catchers in votes:
Perez's inclusion shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as the Royals' catcher is in the middle of one of the best seasons of his career. Through 64 games, Perez is hitting .285/.314/.530 with a 127 wRC+ and 16 home runs. Among all AL catchers, Perez ranks 1st in homers, 3rd in WAR (1.5), and 6th in wRC+.
Fans will continue to be allowed to vote up to five times a day until June 24 at 3:59 p.m., when the window closes. "Phase 2" of All-Star voting -- meant to pick the AL and NL starters -- then begins on June 28th and runs until July 1.
