Wichita State nearly completed a comeback from 15 points down but fell 62-59 to Boise State on Tuesday night at ExtraMile Arena.
The Shockers (3-1) held the Broncos scoreless from the field over the final 3:13 and pulled within three points twice in the closing seconds. After two missed Boise State free throws with 6.4 seconds left, Michael Gray Jr.'s contested three-pointer at the buzzer rimmed out.
Trailing 50-35 with 12:20 remaining, Wichita State rallied behind an 8-0 run. Kenyon Giles and Gray sparked the surge, pulling WSU within 52-48. Though Boise State pushed the lead back to 60-50, late buckets from Giles, Will Berg and Dre Kindell brought the Shockers within three in the final seconds.
Giles led WSU with 15 points, while Gray added 12. Drew Fielder paced Boise State (4-1) with 17 points.
Wichita State hosts Milwaukee on Saturday at 6 p.m.
