🏈40 years ago (1986): college football, October 11, 1986 -- the final win for Wichita State in its 90-year program history.

Brad Fleeman (from Kapaun-Mt. Carmel HS) kicks three field goals to carry the Shockers over Central Florida 9-6 on an extremely muddy field on an awful weather day at Cessna Stadium. Interceptions by Kirk Allen and Sjohn Jackson set up two of the field goals.

The Knights, an NCAA-Division II team, nearly earned their first-ever victory against a Division I-A team; it was a cold, windy, miserable, soggy afternoon, with sleet, and only 4,167 fans in attendance.

Central Florida missed an extra point, and the Knights had two botched field goal attempts. WSU improved to 3-3 on the season, giving the Shockers back-to-back wins.

Less than two months after this win, Wichita State announced it was disbanding its football program.
