All Evacs Lifted in Tick Fire

All evacuation orders have now been lifted in neighborhoods near the so-called "Tick Fire" in the Santa Clarita area, which is now 78% contained after destroying at least 24 homes and damaging at least 38 others.

That fire has charred more than 46,000 acres, and at its height a few days ago, more than 40,000 people were under mandatory orders to leave their homes.

Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency in LA County due to the Tick Fire, freeing up state resources to assist in the firefighting effort.

LA County fire chief Daryl Osby updated the public about the fire on Friday morning.Osby says that six homes were confirmed as destroyed but he expects that number to rise.  The fire is burning through 4,300 acres and is 5 percent contained.

He said there more are than 40,000 people who have been forced out of their homes and more than 15,000 homes are threatened. The brush fire jumped from  3,700 acres of land in the Santa Clarita area to 5,000 acres on Thursday late afternoon. 

There are school closures and poor air quality on Friday morning.

The fire was just one of a handful that has popped up across Southern California on Thursday afternoon. 

ROAD CLOSURES FRIDAY:

LA County Fire Department said in a tweet Friday morning that the 14 freeway is closed in both directions, northbound from Golden VAlley, southbound from Escondido Canyon. Additional evacuations are now in place South of 14 fwy east of Sand Cyn, north of Placerita Cyn., west of Agua Dulce.

-All of Sand Canyon from the 14 to Placerita is under evacuation (not just east of Sand Cyn), and Fair Oaks will remain voluntary. Sierra Highway between Davenport and Golden Valley is also closed.

-Soledad Canyon from Whites Canyon Road

-North Whites Canton from Soledad Canyon

-East Plum Canyon Road from Bouquet Canyon Road

-East Bouquet from Copper Hill Drive
