NORWALK (CNS) - Los Angeles County sheriff's investigators today released surveillance footage in hopes of tracking down a man and woman accused of perpetrating scams targeting seniors in several cities, including Paramount, Anaheim and Norwalk, where an 80-year-old woman was tricked into giving them $4,000 in cash for a fake gold brick.
The con artists approached the unidentified woman about 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 at a Target store in the 10600 block of Firestone Boulevard.
They convinced her that the "gold brick" was worth $8,000 and she was getting it at half-price, claiming they were not able to sell it by other means because they were undocumented immigrants, according to Deputy Juanita Navarro-Suarez of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.
Anyone with information was asked to contact Norwalk Sheriff's Station Detective Hernandez at 562-466-5431 or email aahernan@lasd.org. To provide an anonymous tip, call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
