A hunter in Arkansas was killed by a deer he thought he'd shot and killed.
Thomas Alexander, 66, was an experienced hunter. According to Keith Stephens, Chief of communications with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Alexander was planted in an elevated deer stand on Tuesday night when he believed he'd successfully shot a deer.
Apparently, after going to check on his "kill," Alexander uncovered the truth -- the deer was not in fact dead. The deer must have gotten up and attacked him. Alexander's body was covered in puncture wounds.
"It appears he shot the deer and he had put his rifle down near the deer stand and walked down to check and make sure it was dead," Stephens told ABC News. "And that's when whatever happened, happened."
Alexander was hunting alone but was able to contact family, who then called emergency responders, but he died later at the hospital.
Stephens told ABC News officials are still searching for the deer.
