A hit-and-run driver is being sought by the police Thursday.

A driver ran over a pedestrian in a crosswalk in the Fairfax District and then took off.

The victim was crossing the street at Melrose and Genesee Avenues just after 10:00 p.m. Wednesday night as a vehicle approached.

LAPD Officer Lizette Lomeli says "an unidentified driver of a dark-colored vehicle, possibly a small-sized SUV, was driving westbound on Melrose when the vehicle collided with a pedestrian walking north in the crosswalk."

The driver did not stop and paramedics were unable to revive the victim who died.

Detectives at LAPD’s West Traffic Division are hoping someone with information can help them track down the driver and the vehicle. Anyone with information can reach Los Angeles police at 877-527-3247.
