KNX Exclusive: Former CA Gov. Gray Davis on School Shootings, Gun Control

Thursday on KNX In-Depth former Governor of California Gray Davis spoke out about school shootings, gun control, and the NRA as Santa Clarita deals with the emotional upheaval of the deadly school shooting at Saugus High School.

Davis talked about how NRA isn't addressing what he calls the lack of leadership of Republican Senator Mitch McConnell. 

Ironically, as Senator Richard Blumenthal from Connecticut was on the Senate floor Thursday morning advocating for stricter gun control measures, he heard the news of a shooting a Saugus High School in Santa Clarita. 

"We are complicit in these deaths if we fail to act," Blumenthal said as he read on a slip of paper he'd been handed as he was speaking. "As I speak, on the floor right now, there is a school shooting in Santa [Clarita>, Calif. How can we turn the other way? How can we refuse to see that shooting in real-time, demanding our attention, requiring our action," he continued. 

Blumenthal has been an outspoken supporter for universal background checks.

Six victims were injured, and two died at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita Thursday morning.

One victim was a 14-year-old male and the other was a 16-year-old female, according to authorities in a Thursday morning press conference.

The alleged shooter has been identified as 16-year-old Nathaniel Berhow, and CBS News has confirmed he is in grave injury following the shooting of a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.
