Judge Orders Orange County Beaches to Remain Closed

Over 40 miles of Orange County coastline will remain off limits.

A judge has denied a request by Huntington Beach and Dana Point officials to put a restraining order on Governor Newsom's closure of Orange County beaches, reported NBC Los Angeles.

On Saturday, many appeared to violate the closure as surfers and swimmers were spotted near Huntington Beach Pier. A handful of protesters also gathered to voice their anger toward the Governor's temporary order.

Video from the small protest also showed few wearing face masks or practicing social distancing.

The Orange County Board of Supervisors is negotiating with state officials to come up with a compromise that would potentially allow for active use only on the beaches, reported the outlet. A similar measure is in effect at open beaches in Ventura and San Diego Counties.

On Friday, a livelier scene erupted as hundreds of protesters lined Huntington Beach protesting the closures.

Newsom shut down the beaches after crowds swarmed the shoreline last weekend.
