(KNX 1070) - Los Angeles city prosecutors have filed charges against eight people accused of peddling 'illegally imported medications' to people on the streets, in parks or outside shops.
City Attorney Mike Feuer says the illegal sales took place in locations throughout the city, including Koreatown, North Hollywood and MacArthur Park.
"Buying foreign, prescription drugs and injectable medication on the street can be a recipe for disaster," Feuer said. "That medicine you hope would help you could in fact harm you instead."
The arrests were made as part of an ongoing undercover investigation.
The defendants are each facing up to a year in jail and thousands of dollars in fines, if convicted as charged.
They're all awaiting arraignment.
People having trouble paying for medications are urged to call the county's 211 line for help.
