(KNX 1070) - The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office says Inglewood officials broke state law when they held a meeting to vote on a proposed arena for the Clippers.

The District Attorney’s office had concluded that the Inglewood City Council pulled a fast one on the public by being intentionally vague about the topic of the meeting.

In doing so, Inglewood violated the state’s open meeting law in the process or the Brown Act.

But Inglewood’s mayor James Butts says  "First we don't agree there was a Brown Act Violation."

Butts tells KNX the agenda item laid out what they were doing.

Second, he says, they held the meeting again and voted again, twice.

He scoffed at the complaint that was filed.

"It's just another tactic by Madison Square Garden to try and stop the arena," Butts said.

Madison Square Garden, which owns the Forum in Inglewood, is suing Inglewood because they believe the mayor tricked the company into giving up land that was going to be used for the new competing Clippers arena.

The company believes Inglewood officials were trying to pull a fast one.
