A Los Angeles Police Department detention officer has died of complications from COVID-19. Identified as Senior Detention Officer Erica McAdoo, she is the agency's first coronavirus fatality.
"She lost her valiant battle with coronavirus late yesterday. She is survived by her loving family. Please keep them in your prayers," LAPD said in a statement.
Currently, 287 LAPD employees have been exposed to or tested positive for the virus.

The number of cases in California is now on pace to double every 24.9 days, according to the Los Angeles Times.
