
LA Unified Superintendent Austin Beutner said "do loan debt, credit card debt, predatory lenders, all of the things our students will be exposed to in real life to make sure they are well equipped to deal with those, make good life choices."
Russell Goldsmith is CEO of City National Bank, which is committing $1 million to the effort.
"We gotta send these kids out with some of the basics so they don't make big mistakes, and they don't get caught in that cycle of debt so they know how to save," he said.
Families will come together through a program that the California Council on Economic Education will lead either after school or on weekends.
