Meanwhile, LAX officials have said the new LAXit lot,  where you pick up a taxi, Uber, or Lyft,  is doing exactly what they hoped it would do: reduce traffic in the central terminal area.

Just in time for the Thanksgiving holidays.

Earlier this month,  LAX expanded the size of its new rideshare pickup lot.  That came after a flood of passenger complaints about wait times of an hour or more.

LAX made its rideshare pickup lot 50 percent bigger. The addition of three more lanes for Lyft passengers and keeping two lanes each for taxi’s and Uber users will provide more for customers.

The new system, which was unveiled in October, requires people to take a shuttle (or walk over) to the lot to get a ride. The pick-up area, called "LAX-it," offers bathrooms, and phone charging stations and is east of Terminal 1.

Executives at LAX say the improvements at LAXit have reduced traffic at the airport, reduced the waiting time for the shuttle, getting a Lyft, Uber or a taxi ride.

Airport executives told LAX commissioners that new signs have been added, the shuttle system has been improved and the LAXit lot itself was expanded, giving Lyft a dedicated queuing area helping ease things up on Century Blvd.

They claim that shuttle wait times at the terminals are now 3-5 minutes on average, a shuttle ride to the lot is about 11 minutes and that the actual wait time in the LAXit lot for a taxi, Lyft or Uber is less than 10 minutes.

The LAXit shuttles now operate in a dedicated lane on the lower/arrivals level where they will not compete with other airport traffic and will take guests from any terminal to the new pickup area, according to its October press release.
