White House officials have confirmed that following President Trump's decision to remove U.S. troops from northern Syria, he wrote a letter to Turkish president Erdoğan.

The letter, which was obtained by Fox Business's Trish Regan, displays Trump's attempt to calm Erdogan, pleading that he not be "a tough guy." That he "Be smart!"

Strange in its tone, many people were not sure initially if the letter was actually authentic.

The letter ends with "I will call you later." And then it is signed by President Trump.

The letter was sent the same day Turkey launched its offensive against the Kurds.
