The fire is currently estimated at 9,412 acres and is 80% contained.

All evacuations lifted as of Saturday at 2:00pm.

Two structures were destroyed.

The Maria Fire, which started Thursday night, has forced more than 8,000 people in the Somis area, west of Moorpark, out of their homes Friday morning.

The brush fire is on the upper ridge of South Mountain, North of Somis in Santa Paula.

On Friday morning, firefighters are fighting fire with fire. They are burning up the brush that has not yet burned to deprive the fire of fuel. They say there is not a lot of fuel left to burn.

Twenty three hundred structures are threatened and 800 homes have been evacuated.

The fire is burning on the hill above this housing development, and the other side of the ridge, and to my right, too. A lot of smoke. #MariaFire. @KNX1070 pic.twitter.com/5dZch1HApt

The winds have subsided a bit and the cold temperatures have reduced the fires ability to aggressively run down hill. Ground and air resources are strategically attacking the perimeter.

The fire started shortly after 6 p.m. Thursday night.
