In Palos Verdes, a boy’s prom invitation to a girl has really prompted outrage.

Usually called "promposal," the photo shows a boy and a girl with a sign that says "Bianca, you are racist. But I would give anything for you to go with me to prom." Various letters from the message also spell out the "N-----" word.

Other students and parents are outraged and demanding action.

The photograph, posted by several users on Twitter and Instagram, shows two young people who attend Palos Verdes High School.

"We will review appropriate behavior and how the use of hurtful racial slurs like the one used on this recent picture posted on social media is unacceptable. I know that this one unfortunate event does not represent us as a school community.
Racist words and racist acts have no place in our school community.
We will rise above this, learn from this, and be a better school community because of it."

One student who talked to KNX reporter Jon Baird said the racist prom proposal wasn’t really shocking but she thought it was appalling.

Brian Levin, who heads the Center for the Study of Hate and  Extremism at Cal State San Bernardino, tells KNX this should be a teachable moment for this school and others. He says we're living in a time of shock social media and rising hate crimes.
