Public Health Officials Have a New Warning About the Flu

Public health officials are sending out a new warning about the flu after a big jump in cases involving a particular strain.

Normally Influenza Type A, which can mutate and poses the greatest risk for widespread infection to the population is seen beginning in October, with Type B (a more generic version comes later in the spring).

Dr. Michael Daignault, who works at two emergency rooms in the area says this year it's different.

Daignault says the doubling of B strain infection cases showing up in ER’s is troubling, but it can be handled if patients do their part by getting flu shots now, and if they think they are in the very early stages of getting the flu, get a prescription for Tamiflu, which has proven effective in minimizing the severity of the disease.
