A young pastor at a Riverside mega-church, known for his work in mental health advocacy has committed suicide.
Jarrid Wilson joined the Harvest Christian Fellowship Church last year. He and his wife founded "Anthem of Hope," an outreach designed to help people managing depression and suicidal thoughts.
"Jarrid also repeatedly dealt with depression and was very open about his ongoing struggles," Senior Pastor Greg Laurie with Harvest Christian Fellowship Church said in a statement. "He wanted to especially help those who were dealing with suicidal thoughts."
Wilson posted on his Twitter page about his own demons, writing, "Loving Jesus doesn't always cure suicidal thoughts. Loving Jesus doesn't always cure depression. Loving Jesus doesn't always cure PTSD. Loving Jesus doesn't always cure anxiety. But that doesn't mean Jesus doesn't offer us companionship and comfort. He ALWAYS does that."
Wilson's wife Julianne posted on her Instagram that her husband was a "loving, giving, kind-hearted, encouraging, handsome, hilarious" man who would "give the shirt off his back."
