WATCH: Santa Maria HS Basketball Game Ends with Xenophobic Chants

The last minutes of a high school basketball game in Santa Maria, California ended in xenophobic chants Tuesday night. 

A group of students from Righetti High were captured chanting, "Where's your passport, where's your passport?," at the rival team from St. Joseph High School -- the team has three players from Puerto Rico, and one from France.

The principal from St. Joseph, Erin Dougherty attempted to stop the chanting, but an administrator from Righetti can be seen gesturing for her to go away. 

According to NBC News, spokesperson for the Santa Maria Joint Union High School District, which includes Righetti, said: "both sides" were at fault. 

“We are aware of the unacceptable comments exchanged from both sides of the basketball court during the heated rivalry between St. Joseph and Righetti High School Tuesday night,” the district statement said. “The incident is being addressed." 

On behalf of St. Joseph, the archdiocese said in a statement: “We do not tolerate any type of inappropriate statements made at any student especially if they could be interpreted as disrespectful. We hope that this can be a lesson in sportsmanship and mutual respect for students from both schools.

“We are disappointed about the way the boys basketball game against Righetti High School ended on Tuesday night."
