When California Highway Patrol Officers got a 911 call Monday about a teen tied up in the back of a 2014 Toyota Corolla, heading south on Interstate 5 in Orange County, they were surprised to learn the girl was being abducted by her own father and sister.
CHP began searching for the car and eventually found it stopped at about 7:30 p.m. They learned that the girl, 17, had been taken by her father, 67, and sister, 21, from San Juan Capistrano in order to place her in a drug rehab facility in Mexico.
"It was the intent of the father and sister to transport the juvenile to Mexico to a drug treatment facility," CHP spokesman Officer Kevin Smale said in a statement. "The 17-year-old female admitted to using methamphetamine for the past year."
The girl was taken and placed into protective custody.
CHP has consulted with investigators from the OC prosecutor's office, and criminal charges are pending against the father and sister.
