Nursing aides, custodians and food service workers, who want an 8 percent pay increase, are on the picket line Thursday morning outside the UCLA Medical Center.
The University of California is offering a three percent raise instead, saying they can't afford 8 percent.
UC Riverside, UC Irvine and other locations were also going to see strike workers.
At least 100 people showed up to UCLA Medical Center Thursday.
For the second time in less than a month in April and the fourth time in a year, thousands of University of California workers staged a one-day strike at campuses and medical facilities across the state, alleging unfair labor practices.
