USC Student Marks First Confirmed Coronavirus Case at the University

An undergraduate at USC has tested positive for coronavirus, marking the first confirmed case at the university.

Chief Health Officer Dr. Sarah Van Orman shared the news in a community-wide email. The student had recently returned from traveling abroad when they were tested. The student has not been on or near USC campuses since the diagnosis.

The student remains in good condition and is in self-isolation at home, following orders from public health officials, the email explained. The University is working to alert anyone who may have come in contact with the student in recent weeks.

With the spread of the disease growing rapidly, those who may have come into contact with the illness are being advised to self-quarantine. USC is working to aid in that process by relocating students and those who have been in contact with them.

The school has further advised students to contact the COVID-19 hotline or visit the dedicated website for answers to any further questions they may have.

The news of the first confirmed case at USC comes just hours after LA Public Health officials confirmed that LA County now has 69 confirmed cases of the virus.
