The New Braunfels Police Department had to deal with not one but two zebras on the loose Aug. 7.
A pair of zebras escaped their pens off of Highway 46 and swam across the Guadalupe River, according to the police press release. One remained in the area while another led officers on a chase down busy streets as seen in the video below.
Officers responded to assist Animal Control and the zebra slowed down in the area of Loop 337 and West San Antonio Street.
A helicopter, which was manned by the original owners of the animal, arrived to help officers and both entities together corralled the animal to safely sedate it.
The police learned that zebra died sometime after it was returned to its owners, unfortunately, according to the police press release.
The second zebra, which escaped, was also returned safely.
NBPD is currently assisting Animal Control in corralling a zebra that somehow got loose this afternoon and has been making its way across the city. The zebra is currently in the area of N. Grape Ave. pic.twitter.com/dWnizDje3b
— New Braunfels Police (@NBPDTX) August 7, 2019The missing zebra is NOT from the Snake Farm. And NBPD is also being assited by a helicopter team that specializes in safely trapping animals, so you may see a helicopter flying low over the area.
— New Braunfels Police (@NBPDTX) August 7, 2019UPDATE: The zebra was safely tranquilized and carefully recovered. The zebra got loose by swimming across the Guadalupe River. ----PLOT TWIST: There's a second zebra that also escaped at that time and remains missing. If you spot a zebra...call NBPD at 830-221-4100. ----
