Viral video shows bystanders laughing and not helping the two deputies who were ambushed and shot at the Compton transit center Saturday evening.
LASD Sheriff Alex Villanueva reacted to the viral video telling KNX 1070 he is disgusted.
"Not a soul walked up to the deputies. They were by themselves until their partners in the field showed up to help them," he said adding "there is no humanity there."
The Sheriff also told KNX the reward to help identify the shooter was up to $175,000 after private donations on Monday.
That has increased to more than $200,000 thanks to an additional $100,000 approved Tuesday by the LA County Board of Supervisors. Janice Hahn praised the wounded deputies.
The video was taken immediately after a gunman walked up to the two deputies sitting in their car and opened fire through the passenger window Saturday night - hitting both deputies multiple times. It shows bystanders laughing, but not assisting or calling police in the minutes following the attack.
The deputies were a 31-year-old mother of a 6-year-old boy whose husband was at the hospital. And a 24-year-old man whose parents and girlfriend were also at the hospital, Sheriff Villanueva has said. The sheriff said he swore-in both deputies himself 14 months ago.
The deputies managed to get out of the car, severely injured, with one helping the other.
Both deputies are in critical, but stable condition. The manhunt continues for the suspect.
