
Two people were killed today in separate crashes during rainfall on freeways in Pomona and Sun Valley, authorities said.
A Hyundai sedan and a big rig collided at 4:23 a.m. on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway just west of the White Avenue offramp in Pomona, California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball said.
Witnesses told the CHP it appeared the smaller car rear-ended the big rig at a high rate of speed.
A SigAlert was issued at 3:52 a.m. shutting down the HOV lane and lanes 1,2,3 and 4 at Garey Avenue but lanes 3 and 4 were reopened at 4:33 a.m. the CHP said.
The Sun Valley fatal crash was reported at 4:14 a.m. on the northbound Golden State (5) Freeway at Tuxford Street, Kimball said. It also involved a car and a big rig and one male was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:42 a.m. His age not available, Kimball said.
A SigAlert was issued at 4:43 a.m. for lanes 1, 2, 3 and 4, he said. The HOV lane remained open.
