Los Angeles police say tips and photos from the public helped officers and detectives track down five suspects who allegedly carjacked and brutally stabbed a pregnant woman in Sunland last week.
They arrested five suspects, who are alleged gang members, connected with the March 20 Sunland-Tujunga area stabbing of a pregnant school teacher.
The suspects were charged with attempt murder, carjacking, robbery, hit and run, and gang enhancements, according to the LAPD press release.
Additionally, one suspect was charged with further enhancements of aggravated mayhem and great bodily injury.
Authorities initially responded to a traffic collision in the 10800 block of Eldora Avenue in Sunland where they found the woman suffering from multiple stab wounds. She also had multiple injuries.
The investigation determined that a group of three male suspects approached and surrounded the victim in her vehicle as she was parking along the curbside in front of her residence, according to the LAPD press release.
A white Volkswagen Jetta had also stopped a short distance away.
A suspect asked the victim if he could borrow her cellular phone.
She refused and one of the suspects allegedly punched and allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times as she remained seated in the driver’s seat of her car.
The victim was dragged out of her car while another suspect allegedly stole property from inside.
Two of the male suspects then entered the victim’s car and drove it away.
The third male suspect entered the awaiting Jetta, which was occupied by two female suspects.
The suspects were involved in multiple traffic collisions with several parked cars while leaving the scene in the victim’s car, the LAPD said.
The suspects abandoned the victim’s vehicle on Eldora Avenue, as the vehicle became completely disabled. They fled on foot.
