(KNX 1070) - A highly-respected Los Angeles Sheriff's homicide investigator has died.
Lieutenant John Corina passed away at a hospital after a brief illness. He was 58-years-old.
Corina served on the department 36 years and lead a team of investigators that re-opened the 1981 death of actress Natalie Wood.
Corina had served at the Homicide Bureau both as an investigator and leading a team of detectives for almost 15 years.
"John Corina was a tenacious investigator, a tremendous supervisor and an icon at Sheriff's Homicide. He was also a man of great character who led by example, a consummate professional," said Homicide Captain Kent Wegener in a press release. "The Bureau, the Department and the entire community have suffered a great loss with his passing, as he touched many lives with his service. He will be sorely missed."
