Divers Scour Ocean for Missing Swimmer in Santa Monica

Dive teams are scheduled to resume their search at 8 a.m. for a swimmer missing in the ocean near Santa Monica.

The swimmer was last seen from shore about 11 a.m. Tuesday near lifeguard tower nine, and authorities began a search for the unidentified man, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department's Lifeguard Division.

County lifeguards and U.S. Coast Guard personnel were involved in the search, which included air support.

High winds and rough seas prompted lifeguards to end dive operations around 2:20 p.m. yesterday, although the lifeguards' Marine Technical Search team remained on the scene to scan the area with specialized sonar equipment.
