(KNX 1070) - The family of an elderly Air Force veteran has sued a hotel in Ontario, claiming the man died of Legionnaires' Disease that he got at the hotel.
The family's attorney Brian Panish tells KNX the coroner found the disease strain was tracked last year to the pool of Best Western Plus Ontario, which has since been renamed Hotel D'Lins.
"They played Russian roulette with someone else's life and that is unfortunate they didn't want to spend the money, they didn't want to do what they were supposed to despite numerous warnings. That's why we are seeking punitive damages to punish them and make an example of them," he said.
He says the hotel was told repeatedly about health and safety violations regarding the pool.
KNX has reached out to the hotel for comment.
In court documents, it denies the allegations.
