(KNX 1070) -- Fox News host Jesse Watters put his foot in his mouth Wednesday when he attempted to laud Gayle King for redeeming herself in an interview with Jussie Smollett, the "Empire" star accused of filing a false police report about an alleged attack against him.

The problem is... the interview Watters was referring to was with "Good Morning America" co-host Robin Roberts.

"The Five" hosts were discussing King's interview with the alleged sexual abuser, R. Kelly when Watters made the gaff.

"Hats off to Gayle King for totally redeeming herself after the Smollett fiasco,” Watters said.

“That was not Gayle King,” co-host Dana Perino told Watters. "I knew that," Watters said, attempting to roll back his misstatement. “Robin Roberts did the interview," Perino added.

“Sorry for Robin Roberts out there. I apologize,” Watters said shaking his head.

The Fox News host apologized again later on in the show, writing on a small dry-erase board, “I’m sorry Gayle & Robin.”

Last August Fox News confused their queens of soul, mistaking Patti LaBelle for Aretha Franklin.
