Investigation into Tire Explosion at OC Airport that Killed 1 Contract Worker

(KNX 1070) - There's been a deadly accident at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana.

It happened as two contractors worked on a four-foot tall tire for a jet bridge, inside a repair shop. 

The tire exploded, leaving one of the workers with fatal injuries.  The second person in the shop refused medical attention.

The incident did not impact airport operations.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating, and Cal-OSHA investigators are expected to arrive at the airport later on Wednesday.
